The prospect to be gained in the very beginning of the problems related with medical photos, an approach respecting rights and freedoms, providing informed consent related with the actions that the patient participation are very important in ethical points of view.
In treatment process, the patient sometimes can be the share holder of the activities of educating and training, training and research and sometimes scientific publication and presentation.
Informed consent can be based on autonomy concept. It is important that the patient’s being informed related with his/her health, being aware of the activities that he/she is in, and stating his or her decision whether to be or not to be in the activities.
In this study, we have analyzed the topic of medical photos based on informed consent.
In order to clarify the topic, we tried to find the answers to the following questions: How to take permission for medical photos? Can patient relatives give permission for medical photos? Who should take the medical photos? Can the physician go into the operation room with a camera? Can he or she make a photo album?, Can the photos be shown to the third people? Where the photos should be kept?
The informed consent forms, clearly prepared to show the purposes and uses of medical photos and responsibilities of the sides, should be prepared and widened.Keywords: Informed consent, medical photographsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2007, 15:94-100
