The Information Level Of Women Living In Ankara, Kale District About The Sections Related With Women’s Health Of New Turkish Civil Code, New Turkish Criminal Code And Protection Of Family Code

aHalk Sağlığı Hemşireliği, bKadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Hemşireliği, Gazi Üniversitesi Hemşirelik Yüksek Okulu, ANKARA This research has been conducted in order to determine the information levels of women aged 15 years and older about the sections related with women’s health of new Turkish civil code, new Turkish criminal code and protection of family code.
The universe of the study consisted of women aged 15 years and older who live in Ankara, Kale District. The sample group consisted of 200 women. A questionnaire has been used to collect data. The questionnaire was of two parts. First part was about the sociodemographical data of the women and the second part consisted proposals about women’s health form the related parts of new Turkish civil code, new Turkish criminal code and protection of family code. The data has been analyzed by khi square test.
The mean age of the women included in the study was 35.31 ± 12 .3 years, 53% of them were under 35 years old, 85% of them were married, 64% of them were graduate of primary school, 93% of them were unemployed. 76% of them were living in core family. The longest habitation place of 42% of them was city center. 91.5% of the women gave wrong answer to the “If partners are married they should share the same house” proposal. 90.5% oft he women gave wrong answer to the “Fornication is a crime” proposal. And the wrong answer rate was 87% to the “Sterilization of the women without her consent is a crime” proposal.
In this study the information of women aged 15 years and older about the sections related with women’s health of new Turkish civil code, new Turkish criminal code and family protection code has been determined mostly as false or insufficient. Under these findings nurses which also have the role of educating and counseling, should inform the women about legal issues affecting women’s health and give support to implement these issues.Keywords: Legislation & jurisprudence; women's health; nurse's roleTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2007, 15:69-80
