Excessive and irregular working hours impair the presentation of the medical services, and have a negative impact on family and social lives of doctors.
Physical exhaustion may from time to time, impair the attentiveness of doctors. After that, the judgment failures are unavoidable. Even the most experienced doctor could have an incorrect judgment and be responsible for that. After a wrong decision in clinic, patients may suffer.
It is hard to find a solution as to how the doctor working hours could be adjusted, without making use of ethical principles. Ethicalcontemplation is taken into consideration for reaching a decision, in case of a conflict. Other principlesas well as avoiding harm can not be neglected in adjustment of working hours.
In our study, we shall give the reasoning for the adjustment of working hours, according to "providing benefit, preventing losses, respect to autonomy and justice".Keywords: Physicians’ working hours, risks, regulations, ethical principlesTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2007, 15:39-44
