The Fourth Dimension In Medical Faculties: Ethics And Beyond
Dr. Yaman ÖRSa
aDeontoloji AD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA The definition of medial activity as a science, not infrequently encountered in our time, is unjustifiable from a basic methodological point of veiw. Considered as a whole, this activity has a pragmatic Aim: to find solutions to the disease/health problems of human beings on both the individual and social levels. Scientific fields in the sense of basic science with its essential aim of explaning phenomena is the sine qua non or necessary condition of modern medicine and its education. We observe that therapeutic medicine, which is an applied fild, has been assuming an increasing importance in this country as well as in the world at large, and that basic medical sciences are no longer regarded as ends in themselves but almost solely as a means to clinical branches and their education. Furthermore, the conception of social health is apparently being more and more neglected. We can no longer afford a delay in the appreciation of the importance of Medical Ethics as an academic field, which is different from Medical Deontology and whereby medical activity can be questioned as a whole. Keywords: Medical activity, medical education, medical faculties, medical ethics, medical deontologyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 1994,2:13-15
