Can “alternative Medicine” Be An Alternative For Medicine?
Dr. N. Yasemin OĞUZa
aDeontoloji AD, Doktara Öğrencisi, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA The purpose of this article is to study “alternative” medicine, which is based on mystic philosophical approach instead of scientific approach and which is proposed as an alternative to the modern scientific medicine, with a critical point of view. During the recent years, “alternative” medicine practices increased in our country where the folk medicine has very strong historical roots. The media markets “alternative” medicine irresponsibly. I think, defining “alternative” medicine which can be defined as a collection of multi-original procedures, studying its procedures and predicting the medical and ethical outcomes of its widespread use, has a great importance in making and keeping the medical society sensitive about the subject. The advertisements in which “alternative” medicine society and their supporters abuse physicians’ reputation, can only be prevented by the constant sensitivity of modern medical society. Keywords: Alternative medicine, medical ethicsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 1994,2:8-11
