Dr. Selçuk YÜCESANa
aÇocuk Cerrahisi AD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Ethical problems in pediatric surgery as well as in the adult surgery has supermost importance. While in the past the physician gave the orders and the patient followed them without any question, in the twentieth century informing the patients and the rights of informed concent in which patients prevail in decisions affecting therapy has been emphasized.
Because the civilized society does not recognize babies and children as autonomous individuals parents, ethics committees and pediatric surgical associations have a interactive role in the making of decisions of medical and surgical treatments whatever the pathologies are.
The increased opportunities in medical technology, genetics and transplantation which led to multiplication in ethical problems rather than diminishing, still forced us to discuss the ethical problems. Keywords: Medical ethics, pediatric surgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 1995,2-3:82-84
