Gene Studies And Ethics

Gene studies have been directed our life quite fast and effective in 21st century. Genetic manipulations have had a great service potential in our daily life which acting from diagnosis to therapy of the diseases, generation of new food sources, production of extincted animals. Especially gene technologies are utilized in medicine, agriculture, zoology, food science, chemistry, energy and environment industry.
At the reach point, human has a power that can make clone himself and irreversible changes for his enviroment. But this potential power of gene study emerged some ethical questions and problems.
It is considered that discussed ethical concerns are gene contaminations, fairness in the use of genetic information, privacy and confidentality of genetic information, reproductive issues, psychological impact and stigmatization due to an individual genetic differences, uncertainties associated with gene tests for susceptibilities and complex conditions linked to multiple genes and gene-environment interactions, conceptual and philosophical implications regarding human responsibility, health and environmental issues concerning genetically modified products, commercialization of products.
