One of these ethical problems arrises in the area of gaining a patients informed consent. The patient’s moral right to self-determination and the corresponding duty of health professionals to “do no harm” create a strong moral basis for gaining a patient’s informed consent. Although physicians generally are expected to secure their patients’ informed consent to medical treatment, in certain situations other health care professsionals must become aware of their responsibilities related to informed consent for treatment. As a professional group that puts patients at risk of harm during treatment, physical therapists need to know about their duty to facilitate a patient’s awareness of and consent to treatment to protect or enhance patients autonomy. Keywords: Physicaltherapist, informed consent, rehabilitation, ethicsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2005, 13:160-164
