* Dr.Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Deontoloji AD, Öğr.Gör., ANKARA Patients’ rights as an extension of right to health and more basically right to life, is one of the main concerns of the recent studies in medical ethics. Two important studies which has been recently completed, will be introduced in this article. First study is the “Declaration of Promotion of Human Rights in Europe”, which was prepared by World Health Organisation’s European Bureau and declared in Amsterdam on 28-30th March 1994. This declaration was translated by Doç.Dr.Şükrü Hatun and published by Turkish Medical Association (TTB). The second study is the new declaration translated by your author and included in this article. Comparing these two studies will provide us with an idea about the approaches of the organisations to patients’ rights. Also, this will give us some clues about the changing values in the issue. Some studies on patients’ rights has also been performed in our country. But as they are still in debate and have not reached to their final structure yet, this article will not include them as a subject of comparison. Keywords: Medical ethics, Patients’ rights, DeclarationsTurkiye Klinikleri Tıbbi Etik 1997, 5:50-55
