Problems That Physicians Face In The Applications Of Forensic Medicine

It is known that, in our country, physicians are accompanying Forensic Medicine specialists with their jobs; just because the number of specialists is not adequate on this subject. A questionnaire was given to 130 physicians, who are working in Eskişehir, to determine the problems that they face while working on the Forensic medicine applications.10 multiple choice questions were asked them about sufficiency of forensic medicine education in the faculty of medicine, their knowledge level on the concepts which are wanted to be controlled often by the legal places, whether they wanted to be a Forensic Medicine specialist and whether they would attend an educational study to remove the absence of Forensic Medicine education. Among the people who attended the questionnaire 110 (84.61%) have stated that their Forensic Medicine education was not adequate, 102 (78.46%) have confessed that they didn’t know the legistations completely about the cases that state the physician fully responsible,130(100%) have complained that the judical responsibilities were not economically attractive for today’s conditians;94(72.30%) have complained from the lack of a technicion during autopsia, 97(74.61%) have stated that they faced with problems in examination of a dead body by exhumation,105(80.76%) didn’t want to be a Forensic Medicine specialist, 20(15.38%) didn’t want to attend the educational study to remove the absence of Forensic Medicine education. It is determined that the basic reason of the problems occuring is; the job of Forensic Medicine is being done by unexperienced physicians who don’t have enough knowledge level. As a result; it was decided that; it should be the main aim to have Forensic Medicine Specialist to do the Forensic Medicine job and in this vision, necessary precautions should be taken as soon as possible to urge to be a Forensic Medicine Specialist.Keywords: Forensic Medicine, Physician, Education, ReportTurkiye Klinikleri Tıbbi Etik 1997, 5:56-63
