* Yrd.Doç.Dr.Osmangazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Deontoloji ABD, ESKİŞEHİR Individual’s “right of being healthy” has a rather new history than the concept of health. At present, patient’s rights are taken into consideration primarily as the right of determining one’s own life style and protecting his/her honour; continuing a safe life, private living, confidentiality, freedom of thought and belief, information, consent, care and treatment. The fact that health care is not a privilege, but a right widely accepted philosophy. The issue of “confidentiality” was emphasised separately both in the report of Human Rights Commission in 1966 and Declaration of Lisbon in 1981, and also in the Declaration, namely “Developing Patient’s Rights in Europe” which was prepared by European Bureau of World Health Organisation on 28-30 March 1994 in Amsterdam. Keywords: Patient’s right, Medical ethics, ConfidentialityTurkiye Klinikleri Tıbbi Etik 1997, 5:16-19
