Patient’s Rights In Psychiatry And Its Implications On Psychiatric Nursing Practice

* Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Hemşirelik Yüksekokulu Öğretim Üyesi, İZMİR Patient rights is the important part of the human rights and freedoms. The interest and attention of the health personnel to the subject has been increasing since 1970’s.
The health personnel are at the side of patient’s rights, but there are some gaps between practice and theory.
On the other hand the nurses are responsible for taking in guaranty the patient’s rights directly. Because they decide and do some interventions for the patient when he or she is not able to. So, she acts like this in order to carry and do this responsibility. Knowing the patient’s rights, practicing these and taking precautions if there is any ingringement are all amongst her duty.
