aHemşirelik Öğretimi AD, İstanbul Üniversitesi Florence Nightingale Hemşirelik Yüksekokulu, İSTANBUL The development in health field make this area face with legal area and creates serious dissaggrement between them. Euthanasıa has taken an important place in this dissaggrement. Therefore, it is impor-tant to determine the views about euthanasıa of nursing students who will work in the health care system.
The research was planned in descriptive method to determine the views of nursing students about euthanasıa.
135 students have been chosen by stratifield random sampling from among 450 students (in 2002-2003 academic year) of Florence Nıghtıngale College of Nursing. Data were collected using informa-tion form with 15 questions included socio-demographic characteris-tics and the views of students about euthanasıa. The data were ana-lysed on the SPSS computer program using percentage.
%31.9 of students thought euthanasıa is applied in our country, %71.9 of students don’t want to take an active role in euthanasıa application, % 54.1 of students don’t want euthanasia for themselves and %74.1 of students don’t want euthanasıa for their family/relatives.
It is decided that majority of students don’t want to apply eutha-nasıa and take an active role in euthanasıa application and not to want euthanasıa for themselves, their family/relatives. Because they think that euthanasia application is contradictory to their religious belives, human rights, ethics of profession and ethic rules and developments in health field and techonology. Keywords: Euthanasia, nursing, the views about euthanasia, nursing studentsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2005, 13:115-119
