Development Of Dental Radiology In The World And Turkey

After the discovery of X-radiation by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen 1895, first dental images were obtained by Otto Walkhoff and Wilhelm Koenig in Germany, Frank Harrison in England and Edmund Kells in United States of America. In 1930's, X-ray apparatus, which were technologically resembling contemporary machines, had been developed. At the end of 1940's, the fisrt panoramic radiographical equipments had been presented by Y.V. Paetero and in 1980's, digital imaging systems entered the field of dentistry.
Esat Feyzi, MD, who obtained image of a riend's hand in 1896, is the first person whoused X radiation in our country. First dental radiology service was established in 1928 in İstanbul University Dental School under the directorate of Prof. MD. Mehmet Selahattin ERK. The first Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department was founded in 1981 by Prof. MD. Erdoğan TURGUT.
