The foundations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department in Cerrahpasha Medical Faculty were laid in 1933 but in fact even before when the Cerrahpasa Hospital was established in 1911. In this article, the period until the Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty was separated from Istanbul Medical Faculty is presented under the following headines: "First Steps Towards Traumatology", "Dervis Manizade and The Idea to Found a Traumatology Department" and "The First Traumatology Service". There is also a part touching on establishing an "Orthopaedics and Pedosurgery Department" related to the Department of Surgery in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty.
