However the differences that are apparent between sports medicine and clinical practice can shed new light on a number of central issues within health-care ethics. The principles in traditional patient-physician relationship can not be always valid in sports medicine and because of this different ethical issues can be developed. Many ethical issues in sports medicine can come about because the traditional relationship between doctor and patient is altered or absent. In this paper, some topics in medical ethics including patient-physician relationship, confidentiality, beneficence, informed consent and respect for autonomy will be studied from the sports medicine perspective. Keywords: Sports medicine, sport, ethicsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics 2004, 12:183-188
