Distress Subjects Accompanying Abortion And Relieving The Anxiety Depending These

* Uz.Dr., Dr.Zekai Tahir Burak Kadın Sağlığı Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Objective: To disclose the distress subjects accompanying voluntary abortion and to relieve anxiety accompanying the procedure because of these subjectsMaterials and method: Study is conducted in the author's private office between 1995 and 1999. Either under or postgraduate, 120 patients in total were included in the study. The study comprised three independent sections . The distress subjects accompanying voluntary pregnancy termination were elicited from the first 20 patients group. Next 50 patients were applied a query form to discover the frequencies of these subjects. The last 50 patients group were told the truths about them. Before and after the speech they were all applied STAI test. T-test for paired samples was used for statistical analysis. Results: Mainly eight distress subjects were disclosed. The leading distress subject was the examination table. Following two were the distress of suffering from pain (68%) and the distress of decrease in future fertility capacity (66%). The speech was lowered the mean anxiety level from 62.42 to 45.70. This decrease was statistically meaningful (p<0.01).Conclusion: The patients who applied for pregnancy termination need more empathetic approach because the procedure causes a variety of distress subjects peculiar to itself.Keywords: Abortion, Distress, AnxietyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics-Hukuku-Tarihi 2003, 11:56-60
