The Maiden's Tower was built at the mouth of Bospho-rus upon a rock facing Uskudar by the Athenian Commander Alkibiades in the 5th century BC.
The Maiden's Tower, which have been the origin of many legends and which have served various functions, was used as a quarantine hospital for civilian and military patients during epidemic outbreaks in Istanbul.
