The skill of problem solving is definition by a responds that given a situation at significant and hard that required the critical thinking of the solution. This research was planned with the aim of determining the skill problem solving, the relations between personal values and problem solving skill and other effective factors on problem solving skill of the students in Kocaeli Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery School- just after the Earthquake of Marmara on 17th August 1999, when we spent quite hard days- as a means of defining and relation finding. Through this data, we aim to direct the occupational and ethic education and guidance services of the students, that will increase their problem solving skill.This data was collected from 218 students who participated in the research, with the information form determining the properties of the students by using "Problem Solving Inventory" whose was developed by Hepper and Petersen and was reliability and validity study to our country was done by Taylan (2) and Ulupınar (1) The data was evaluated by using the SPSS package programmed on computer and the techniques of percentage, average and one-way variant analysis. We consider that, as well as the mutual education and the professional ethics education which can contribute students to develop their skill of problem solving, professional values of truth and human dignity, critical thinking, and research abilities during their education; so that their problem solving will be developed at an expected level.Keywords: Problem solving, Nurses values, Critical thinking, Nursing studentsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Ethics-Hukuku-Tarihi 2002, 10:214-220
