Prof.dr. Mustafa MÜnİf KocaolÇun (1855-1937) The First Director Of The Turkish School Of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Midwifes And Nurses: Short Review Of The Biography Of This Man On The Turning Point In The History Of Turkish Dentistry On His Memory At The65th Anniversary Of His Death

* Dr., İstanbul Üniversitesi İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Deontoloji ve Tıp Tarihi AD, ISTANBUL On the memory of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Münif Pasha at the 65th anniversary of his death, this article summarizes the life of this man, who was the founding director of the School of Dentistry which started the dentistrical education officially for the first time in Turkey, and presents an interesting document concerned with him. Dr. Mustafa Münif who had graduated from the Civilian Medical School in 1879, up from 1881 worked in the same school as assistant at the anatomical department, later on rose to a lecturer at the surgical department and 1886 was appointed professor in the department educating midwifes. After the foundation of the School of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Midwifes and Nurses in 1909, Mustafa Münif was appointed its first director and continued this duty until 1916. After having left this duty, he gave lectures and lessons on public health, technology etc. in various secondary schools. Because of his interest and comprehensive knowledge of ancient monuments, he worked as head of the Board of the Ancient Monuments? Museum and in the Ministry of Foundations.There are some publications of him published with the permission of the Medical School, a great part of which are translations from French. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Münif, who is reported to have loved reading and writing a lot, made any effort to go on writing down notes on medicine in a notebook even on his death-bed. This notebook which contains his last notes and proves his diligence and passion for science has been stored in the Professors? Records at the Department of Deontology and History of Medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Istanbul University.
