Distress Subjects Accompanying Gynecologic Examination Andthe Benefits Of Informing The Patients About These

* Uzm.Dr., Dr.Zekai Tahir Burak Kadın Sağlığı Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Objective: In this study, both to disclose distress subjects accompanying gynecologic examination and to help reducing the anxiety before the gynecologic examination were aimed.
Study Design: The study was realized in the author's private practice between years 1996 and 1998. Firstly , main distress points about gynecologic examination elicited from 20 patients' group; then a reading text which is comprised of the truths about these anxiety subjects is constructed and displaced randomly in the waiting room. And the opinions of the patients about the text were asked. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis.
Results: In the first part of the study mainly four distress subjects were elicited. Among 100 patients who read the text targeting these subjects, 55 (55%) found the text either very useful or quite useful from the point of view of relieving the anxiety.
Conclusion: Similar studies which could be used to encourage the patient before the gynecologic examination will improve patient comfort and probably will facilitate the job of the practitioner.Keywords: Gynecologic examination, Anxiety ,
