Difficulties Of The Passive Role In Multidisciplinary Research With Special Reference To Pathology
Beyhan DEMİRHAN*, Yücel GÜNGEN*
* Dr., Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Patoloji AD, ANKARA Aim: To express the pathologists' problems in the studies that are designed, performed and written by other disciplines, to propose solutions to these problems, and to create a discussion environment.
Problems:
a) In the case reports, mentioning or not mentioning the name of the pathologist without any permission;
b) In the experimental, studies starting the study without controlling the applicability of the necessary laboratory methods for the research in question, and thus regarding pathologists as technicians;
c) In the clinical studies the use of macroscopical-microscopical findings in the pathology reports without any permission;
d) The order of the authors' names also becomes a problem that may occur in all these three types of research.
Suggestions:
a) To implement the related laws and those rules that could enforce the scientific community (e.g. the law in intellectual and artistic works, the International medical journal editorial council);
b) To render compulsory a written permission from the related pathology department at the planning stage of the research;
c) To demand the identification of the order of the authors' names at the very beginning,
d) To write a letter to the editor for those articles in which the pathologist's name has been omitted, can be mentioned as suggestions in this context.
Conclusion: This topic seems to be related to the scientific ethics within the framework of scientists' attitude and behaviour towards each other. Applicable and concrete solutions are needed to reduce the number of the related problems. Proper solutions can be developed by creating various environments for discussion.Keywords: Multidisciplinary research, Ethics,
